Grab hire or skip hire: which is right for your muck away job?

When you need waste gone, the two most common options are a skip or a grab lorry. Both do the job, but the right choice depends on the waste, the access and the volume.

Skips are handy when you want to fill them over a few days at your own pace. They sit on your drive or, with a permit, on the road, and they suit mixed waste from renovations and clearances. The trade off is that someone has to load them by hand, and a permit may be needed if there is no off road space.

Grab hire is built for speed and heavy loads. The lorry arrives, the onboard grab arm reaches over walls and fences, and the waste is loaded and taken away in one visit. No permit, no manual loading, no waiting. It is ideal for soil, rubble, concrete and spoil from excavations and groundworks.

As a simple rule, choose a skip for slower, mixed household jobs, and grab hire for heavy muck away and site clearance where you want it gone quickly.
